HARRY E. DECKER.
Harry E. Decker, a successful business man of Calistoga, Napa county, has gained a place in the front rank of electrical
contractors in this section of the state. He was born in Calistoga on the 6th of August, 1889, and is a son of
Porter A. and Luella (Cole) Decker, both of whom were born in the east, the former in Missouri and the latter in
Illinois. The father came to Calistoga in an early day and was long numbered among the typical stage drivers of
that period, driving the stage over the mountains to Lake county. He and his wife are still living and are secure
in the respect and esteem of all who know them.
Harry E. Decker secured his educational training in the public schools of Calistoga, and his first employment was
with the Southern Pacific railroad at Vallejo Junction. He next went to San Francisco and worked for some time
as a clerk in the jewelry store of Shreve & Company, after which he went to work for the California Telephone
& Light Company. Upon the entry of the United States into the World war, Mr. Decker enlisted in the Fortieth
Coast Artillery, at Fort Barry, California, being later transferred to Camp Upton, Long Island, where he completed
his service. On his return to civil life he went to work in the power plant at the Mare Island navy yard, at Vallejo,
where he remained until establishing himself in his present business as electrical contractor at Calistoga. He
has been very successful here, having handled a number of large contracts, and the quality of his work has been
his best advertisement, for he is an expert in his line. He also has a store for the sale of everything in the
way of electrical appliances or attachments, carrying a large and well selected stock. Mr. Decker installed the
electric service in the Electric garage in Calistoga, a particularly fine piece of work, requiring a high degree
of technical skill. He also is agent for the Freed Eisemann radio.
Mr. Decker is a member of Calistoga Lodge No. 233, Free and Accepted Masons, and of Calistoga Post No. 231, American
Legion, of which he was commander in 1924, and he is also a charter member of the Calistoga Rotary Club. He was
married to Miss Lillian S. Schleicher, who was born and reared in Calistoga, and they have two children, Betty
Jane and Harry E., Jr.
