A. V. COVEY.
It is pleasant and profitable to contemplate the career of a man who has by his own unaided efforts made a success of life and won the honor and respect of his fellow citizens. Such is the record of the well known business man whose name heads this sketch, than whom a more whole souled or popular man it would be difficult to find in the community where he lives. A. V. Covey, the proprietor of Covey's garage at No. 913 Third street, Napa, is a native of the neighboring county of Sonoma, having been born at Forestville on the 10th day of February, 1892, son of Philip and Irene (Hotell) Covey, both of whom also are natives of California, the former having been born in Sonoma county and the latter in Mendocino county. Mr. Covey is of pioneer stock in both paternal and maternal lines, for his paternal grandfather made five trips with ox teams, across the plains in early days and his maternal grandfather was also one of the early pioneers of this state.

A. V. Covey was educated in the public schools of Forestville and Sebastopol. At the age of twenty years he started out on his own account, learning the trade of automobile mechanic in the Burbank garage in Santa Rosa, where he was employed as night man. He then went to the Ford plant in Santa Rosa, where he remained three years, followed by two and a half years with the Ford Motor Company in San Francisco. In 1917 Mr. Covey came to Napa as foreman in the Ford garage, holding that position until July 5, 1923, when he started in the garage business for himself. He has been very successful in this business, giving careful and painstaking attention to every car committed to his care and has won an excellent reputation as a reliable and competent automobile man. He has the local agency for the Star and Flint cars and is also associate dealer for the same cars in St. Helena. Mr. Covey is a member of the Knights of Pythias and of Napa Grange. He married Miss Alma Henderson, a native of this state, and they have two children, Alan Dale and Mary Jean. Mr. Covey's life, being one of persistent activity, has been crowned with well deserved success and he has won and retains the confidence and good will of all who know him.
