WALEN CEARLEY.
Walen Cearley, the efficient and popular manager of the Union Ice Company at Napa, is a man whose career shows
no meteoric qualities, but by steady and persistent methods, faithfully performing every duty before him and fulfilling
his obligations as a citizen of the respective communities where he has lived, he has gained not only material
success but also the admiration and respect of all who know him. Mr. Ceariey was born at Westplains, Missouri,
on the 31st of May, 1896, and is a son of E. A. and Emma (Pool) Cearley. The family came to California in 1919,
locating first at Orland, where the father engaged in ranching and where he and his wife are still living.
Walen Cearley received his education in the grade and high schools of Oklahoma, to which state the family had moved
when he was but twos years of age. While yet a boy he thoroughly learned the refrigerating business and became
a refrigerating engineer. In 1922 he located at Chico, Butte county, this state, where he was employed as an engineer,
and in 1923 he was transferred to Napa as chief engineer. He was next promoted to the position of manager at Woodland,
where he remained from June, 1924, to June, 1925, when he again came to Napa, and he has since had complete charge
of the interests of the Union Ice Company here. He is closely devoted to his work and has attained a high place
in the confidence of his business associates and the esteem of all with whom he comes in contact.
Mr. Cearley was married to Miss Bertha Palzin, a native of Idaho, and they are the parents of two children, Margaret
and Barbara. He is a stanch republican in his political affiliation, while his fraternal relations are with the
Masons. He also belongs to the Napa Rotary Club. During the World war Mr. Cearley enlisted for service and was
honorably discharged one year later. He began life at the bottom of the ladder and his rise has been the legitimate
result of steady and conscientious effort along rightly directed lines. He is a popular member of the circles in
which he moves.
