C. D. BANTA.
Among the well known business men of Calistoga and Napa county is C. D. Banta, who was born in Sutter county, California,
on the 24th of January, 1876, and is a son of pioneer settlers in this state. He secured his early education in
the schools of his home neighborhood, completing his studies in the public schools of Calistoga, to which city
he moved at the age of fourteen years. He then started to learn the carpenter's trade with Ashley D. Rogers and
followed that occupation here for many years.
In 1920 Mr. Banta entered into a partnership with Harry Coulter, under the firm name of Banta & Coulter, building
contractors, and since that time they have done the major portion of the construction work in this section of the
county, it being a coincidence that at about the time they became associated a new era of building began in this
city. Among the many structures which they have erected here are the Calistoga creamery, a reinforced concrete
block, the Hoover block, the Tucker Farm Center building, residences for L. Nolasco, Ephraim Light, L. Kortum,
Ed Light, A. W. Alm and Mrs. Adele Light, and four houses for Mr. Baneara and two houses for Ed Light. Mr. Banta
was married to Miss Bertha Jones, a native of Illinois.
