Biography of John P. Thomson

John P. Thomson. Born in Grant county, Wisconsin, May 14, 1842. When nine years of age he, with parents, crossed the plains to California. On arriving they settled in Butte county, where the subject of this sketch received his education and resided on a farm until 1867, when they moved to Round valley, Mendocino county, where the father settled on a farm, while the subject of this sketch attended Heald's Business College, San Francisco, for five months. In the fall of 1868 he returned to Round valley and engaged in stock raising, about twenty miles north from Covelo. This he followed until the spring of 1874, when he bought an interest in a a general merchandise store at Covelo with H. T. Fairbanks, which he held until September, 1879, when he disposed of it; since which time he has been engaged in speculating and settling up old accounts. Married, October 5, 1877, Miss Lizzie Dolan, a native of Grant county, Wisconsin. They have lost one child; three months later the mother died.
