Thomas J. Gibson. Born in Tennessee October 29, 1834. When about six years of age he, with his parents, moved
to Arkansas, where they followed farming until 1853, when they came to California, crossing the plains with ox
teams. On arriving they located in the San Joaquin valley, where they were engaged in stock raising until 1856,
when they moved to Bodega, Sonoma county, where they followed their previous business until 1857, when they moved
into Salt Point township, on the coast, where they remained one year, and, in 1858, came to Mendocino county. Here
Thomas J. separated from his parents and began the battle of life alone. He has been engaged in farming and stock
raising. At present he is farming about three quarters of a mile from Ukiah. Mr. Gibson married, in September,
1859, Miss Deborah Lynch, a native of Arkansas. Their children are: Mathew B., born February 3, 1862; Marcus L.,
born February 14, 1864; Henry H., born August 17, 1867; Lucy R., born February 4,1869; Andrew J., born March 26,
1871; Susan M, born October 11, 1873; Sarah E., born September 25, 1875; Berdie, born October 10, 1878; Arthur,
born November 30, 1879.
