A. G. Scown. Is a native of Australia, having been born there May 30, 1841. When ten years of age he started
for California with his parents, but on the voyage his father died, and the subject of this sketch with his mother
proceeded on their journey. His first employment was as waiter on board the steamer "Fashion," plying
between Sacramento and San Francisco, where he continued for six months; he next attended school in the latter
city for a like period. During this time his mother remarried, moved to this county and settled near Novato, where
her son joined her. Married, February 2, 1876, Mrs. Mary Cornnell, a native of Ireland.
