KOUNS, A. Was born in Kentucky, December 6, 1843. In 1859 he, in company with his mother, one brother and two
sisters - his father being dead, crossed the plains to California. They arrived at Smith Ferry in October of the
above year, and resided there until July, 1861, when they came to Lake County. In November, 1871, the subject of
this sketch settled on his present place, consisting of three hundred and twenty acres, located about ten miles
southeast from Lower Lake, where he is engaged in wool growing. He married, July 5, 1868, Miss Rosette A. Copsey,
who died. October 21, 1873, leaving two children: Sarah L., and Jacob, who died March 16, 1874. He married, secondly,
March 12, 1876, Miss Emma A. De Wolf, foster child of C. L. Wilson, by whom he has two living children: Ira M.
and Charles L.; they have lost one: Lucy M.
