COX, CALVARY M. Was born in Virginia January 23, 1833. When about seven years of age his parents moved to Missouri,
where farming was prosecuted until 1854, when the subject of this sketch left his parents and crossed the plains
to California, and arrived at where Woodland now stands, September 17th of the above mentioned year. After a short
rest he hied himself to the mines, and engaged in digging for the precious metal until June, 1856. In October of
that year he came to Lake County, and settled in Morgan Valley, where, in company with his brother Thomas, he is
engaged in farming and stock raising.
