ALEXANDER T. THOMSON, General Manager of the Detroit Copper Mining Co. of Arizona. and Manager of the Moronic
Southern Railway Company. was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1875. His parents, Henry Torrence and Jessie Bryce
Thomson, were prominent in the social life of Scotland's capital. Mr. Thomson was educated in Edinburgh Academy.
after which he had four years experience in a chartered accountant office in his native city. He came to Arizona
in 1896, and started work as bookkeeper for the Arizona Copper Company. En 1900 he was appointed Cashier and Purchasing
Agent for the Arizona Copper Company and Treasurer of the Arizona & New Mexico Railway Company, and in 1910
he was promoted to the position of General Superintendent and Traffic Manager of the latter company in addition
to his other duties. Here his work was eminently satisfactory, and attracted the attention of the Phelps Dodge
Company officials, who offered him his present position, the duties of which he assumed July 1, 1912. Mrs. Thomson
was Miss May E. Harris, and they have one daughter. Ruth Torrence Thomson. They make their home at Morenci. Mr.
Thomson is a member of the Blue Lodge Masons.
